Statement of Faith
Our Statement of Faith underscores our commitment to the teachings of the Bible and outlines the principles that anchor our mission to transform lives in West Africa through the love of Christ.
Our beliefs
At the West African Leadership & Youth Ministry (WALYM), our foundation is built on the enduring and profound truths found in the Holy Scriptures. As a faith-based organization, our vision, mission, and work are guided by essential beliefs that stem from the Bible’s teachings. Our Statement of Faith encapsulates these core beliefs that drive our efforts to spread the Gospel and serve the communities in West Africa. Each principle outlined here serves as a compass, steering our actions, decisions, and dedication to our divine calling. These fundamental tenets unite us as a community, enrich our understanding of God’s Word, and fortify our commitment to be Christ’s ambassadors. We invite you to explore our Statement of Faith to better understand the spiritual convictions that shape our ministry.
1.) The Nature of God
We affirm that God is a Person who has revealed Himself as a Trinity in unity, as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three distinct Persons forming one Godhead (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6).
2.) The Divine Revelation
We believe the Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, to be a divine revelation, verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit in their original form (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).
3.) Jesus Christ
We acknowledge Jesus Christ as the image of the invisible God, divine in essence, who took human form by the Holy Spirit and Virgin Mary’s birth. He sacrificed Himself on the cross for humanity’s sin, arose from the dead, and ascended glorified into heaven. We anticipate His personal and visible return to establish His Kingdom (Colossians 1:15; Philippians 2:5–8; Matthew 1:18–25; 1 Peter 2:24–25; Luke 24; Hebrews 4:14–16; Acts 1:9–11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18; Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 11:15–17; 20:4–6, 11–15).
4.) The Holy Spirit
We attest to the Holy Spirit’s glorification of Jesus Christ, His convicting role in the world, His revelation of Christ, and His vital role in applying Christ’s saving work to humanity (Ezekiel 36:25-27; John 3:3, 5; 1 Corinthians 12:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:5; Colossians 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5).
5.) The Nature of Man
We recognize that man, created in God’s image, fell into sin and is lost without the new birth offered through faith in Christ’s sacrificial work on the cross (Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:10, 23; John 3:3; Acts 13:38–39; 4:12; John 3:16; Matthew 25:46; 2 Corinthians 5:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:7–10).
6.) The Church
We see the Church as an elect company of believers, baptized by the Holy Spirit, tasked with spreading the gospel among all nations and waiting for Christ’s return (Acts 2:41; 15:13–17; Ephesians 1:3–6; 1 Corinthians 12:12–13; Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 1:6–8; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18).
7.) Salvation by Faith
We uphold that salvation comes solely through faith in Jesus Christ, with no merit or degree having the power to ensure entry into heaven without being born again (John 3: 7-18; Romans 5: 6-9).
8.) Assurance of Salvation
We guarantee assurance of salvation for those reborn by the Spirit through Jesus Christ, rooted in the unerring promise of God (Titus 1:2; Luke 10: 20; 2 Cor. 5:1,6-8).
9.) Christian Walk
We promote a Christian walk not according to the flesh, but guided by the Spirit and matured through the Word, resisting sinful desires (Romans 6: 11-13; Galatians 5:16-23).
10.) Second Comings
We await the return of Jesus Christ to restore Israel, fulfill God’s covenant promises, and bring the whole world to the knowledge of God (Deuteronomy 30:1-10; Ezekiel 37:21-28; Matthew 24:15-25; Revelation 20:1-3).
